The Writing Process

Course Description
This course examines all aspects of the writing process. Participants learn how to design effective writing assignments, how to teach "writing fundamentals" using techniques and strategies that engage students and develop higher-order thinking skills, and how to assess and evaluate student writing. Core questions addressed in the course include:
  • What is the writing process, and how can it be taught?
  • What kinds of assignments best develop writing skills?
  • What methods can educators use to teach grammar?
  • How can writing be used to assess student writing in order to improve writing skills?
  • What role(s) should teachers play in teaching writing?
  • How can technology enhance writing instruction?
